Berserk (1997 1998)
Directed by Naohito Takahashi, Berserk adapts Kentaro Miuras manga through the rise and collapse of the Band of the Hawk. Mercenary swordsman Guts is recruited by the ambitious Griffith and fights alongside Casca as the group advances through a prolonged medieval war. The 25-episode anime series combines dark fantasy, military action, psychological drama and supernatural horror in a story shaped by friendship, ambition, betrayal and sacrifice.
