Directed by John McTiernan, Die Hard stars Bruce Willis as New York police officer John McClane, who becomes trapped inside a Los Angeles skyscraper when an armed group led by Alan Rickmans Hans Gruber seizes the building and takes its occupants hostage. Working alone and largely cut off from outside help, McClane attempts to disrupt Grubers carefully planned robbery while staying one step ahead of his heavily armed men. Based on Roderick Thorps book Nothing Lasts Forever, the film received four Academy Award nominations and launched the Die Hard franchise.
