Mike Hodges Get Carter (1971) is one of British cinemas defining crime masterpieces. Starring Michael Caine as a cold, methodical London gangster investigating his brothers death in Newcastle, it fuses Crime and Thriller intensity with grim Social Drama undertones. Violent, stylish, and unflinchingly bleak, it set the standard for modern British gangster films and remains a cornerstone of Eurocrime & Euro Thrillers.

Michael Caine is Jack Carter, the London gangland enforcer who returns to his hometown of Newcastle to investigate his brothers death. Rarely has the criminal underworld been so realistically portrayed as in this 1971 masterpiece. Shot on location, resulting in a devastatingly authentic snapshot of life in the north east of England, Get Carter remains arguably the grittiest and greatest of all British crime films.
