The painted story lies at the heart of Kathryn Freeman’s artworks. Symbolism and magical realism enliven her classical compositions, and her narratives nod to a universal human connection. Each of the creations featured in this calendar references an iconic work of art. Some plainly, like the overflow of Georges Seurat’s A Sunday on La Grande Jatte into the February image, and others more subtle, like the atmospheric nods to Edward Hopper and Pierre Bonnard in January’s painting. Scour these images for references to well-known masterpieces, and enjoy the details of Freeman’s anthropomorphic characters and spirited scenes in the process.
